Mohammed Abu Fani May Leave Red Star Belgrade Soon After Joining

Mohammed Abu Fani, who recently transferred to Red Star Belgrade from Ferencváros for approximately 1.5 million euros, might end his stint at the Serbian club shortly after arriving. The Serbian website Mundo reported on Saturday that several Israeli clubs are monitoring the situation closely and hope to bring the 28-year-old midfielder back to Israel if he is placed on the transfer list.

Abu Fani was signed largely due to the influence of former Red Star coach Dejan Stanković, who knew him from their time together in Hungary and saw him as a key player for the team's midfield. However, his start at Red Star has been disappointing, especially in the two UEFA Champions League qualifying matches against Hapoel Be'er Sheva. In the first match, he was substituted at halftime, and in the second, he was sent off in stoppage time after coming on as a substitute early in the second half.

The new coach, Albert Riera, has yet to see Abu Fani play and will make the final decision regarding his future. Red Star also has other midfield options, including Mahmoud Bajjo and Tomasz Hendel, and if Riera prefers their style, Abu Fani may be allowed to leave. If he departs soon, his tenure at Red Star will be notably brief and could be seen as a collateral consequence of the club's split with Stanković, as the transfer might not have occurred without the former coach's involvement.
