Maccabi Tel Aviv Targets Belgian Winger Thibo Baeten to Strengthen Squad

Maccabi Tel Aviv is considering signing 24-year-old Belgian winger Thibo Baeten, currently playing for Go Ahead Eagles, as part of their efforts to reinforce their squad. Baeten, a left-footed player familiar to Maccabi's sporting director Steven Vanhaeren from their time together at Beerschot, primarily plays on the left wing but can also operate on the right. His previous clubs include Torino and Breda. The club has been seeking a foreign winger to replace Amir Sehiti for some time.

The need for an additional winger was evident in Maccabi Tel Aviv's recent 3-1 loss to CSKA Sofia in the Europa League qualifiers, where the team struggled after Davide Auser was substituted and Saeid Abu Freihy was deployed on the right wing, a position that did not suit him. Baeten is among several candidates being evaluated for the role.

Maccabi Tel Aviv also plans to release several foreign players, including Ion Nicolescu, Henry Edu, and possibly McRaevin Andrade, to strengthen other positions. The team returned to Israel after the match in Sofia and will hold a single morning training session before facing Maccabi Netanya in the Toto Cup semi-final in two days.
