Two Charged for Grenade Attack on Jafnika Restaurant Branch in Kiryat Ono

The Tel Aviv District Prosecutor's Office filed charges against 22-year-old Netanel Avodi and 18-year-old Nahorai Chabaz from Bat Yam for throwing a grenade at a Jafnika restaurant branch in Kiryat Ono about a month ago. According to the indictment, the two arrived at the restaurant late at night on electric bicycles, repeatedly threw the grenade until it exploded, and then fled the scene. One employee was inside the restaurant during the attack, and two others were nearby. The explosion caused damage to the restaurant and adjacent shops.

The indictment, submitted by attorney Tamar Teitelbaum, accuses the suspects of aggravated assault, damage using explosives, and jointly carrying and transporting weapons. Avodi also faces charges of obstructing justice. The prosecution has requested their detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings, citing their lack of fear, determination, and prior criminal records. Their initial lies and subsequent silence during the investigation increased concerns about their dangerousness, as the motive remains unclear.

This attack is part of a recent wave of assaults targeting Jafnika branches across Israel, including in Afula, Netanya, Ramat Gan, Givatayim, Herzliya, and Kiryat Ono. These attacks involved stun grenades, explosive devices, shootings, and arson attempts. A grenade was thrown at the branch in Hadera two weeks ago. Authorities suspect the violence stems from a feud between the Mosli and Jarushi crime families, with some assessments suggesting the attacks targeted Jafnika due to its ownership by businessman Barak Abramov.
