Two Young Men Charged for Grenade Attack on Jafnika Restaurant in Kiryat Ono

Two young men from Bat Yam, aged 18 and 22, have been charged with repeatedly throwing a fragmentation grenade at the Jafnika restaurant in Kiryat Ono, causing significant damage. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 13, 2026, when the suspects, wearing black sweaters and raincoats and riding electric bicycles, approached the restaurant with the grenade concealed in a bag on the bicycle handlebar. They attempted multiple times to detonate the grenade by throwing it at the restaurant's window, initially failing to cause an explosion.

At around 2:05 a.m., the suspects threw the grenade several times at the restaurant’s display window, aiming to cause serious injury or disability to those present. After the grenade finally exploded upon hitting a nearby sign, the suspects fled the scene on their electric bikes. The explosion damaged the restaurant’s window and caused approximately 78,718 shekels in damages, along with an additional 51,330 shekels in damage to nearby shop windows.

During the arrest, police confiscated one suspect’s unlocked mobile phone, which was later deliberately locked by the suspect while in the police vehicle, leading to an additional charge of obstructing justice. Both suspects have prior criminal records despite their young ages. The prosecution has requested to extend their detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
