Jerusalem Police Charge Man in Killing of Foreign Worker in Katamon

On July 23, police were called to an apartment in the Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem after a man was found dead with signs of violence. The scene was secured and forensic investigators from the Jerusalem district began examining the site. Suspicion quickly arose that the death was a criminal act. Jerusalem District Commander Commissioner Avshalom Peled arrived to assess the situation and decided to assign the investigation to the district's Central Unit (YAMAR).

The suspect, a 31-year-old man from Eilat, was arrested shortly after the incident began. Police revealed he had been released from a lengthy prison sentence just six days before the killing, having served time for a previous violent offense. Following intensive investigative efforts by YAMAR detectives, sufficient evidence was gathered against the suspect.

Today, the Jerusalem District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment declaration against the man at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, with formal charges expected to be submitted in the coming days. YAMAR investigation team leader Sergeant Major Yitzhak Dahan described the case as a severe act of violence against a foreign worker who cared for an elderly couple. He emphasized the swift and thorough police work that led to the suspect's arrest and the solid evidentiary foundation for prosecution.
