Jerusalem Man Charged with Murder of Indian Foreign Worker in Katamon

The Jerusalem District Prosecutor's Office filed a prosecutorial statement Monday against a 31-year-old man from Eilat, ahead of an indictment for the murder of an Indian foreign worker in the Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem last month. The suspect had been released from prison just six days before the incident, after serving a lengthy sentence for a previous violent offense. According to the investigation by the Jerusalem District Police Central Unit, on July 23 the suspect went to his parents' home in Jerusalem and brutally murdered the victim.

Police stated that investigators from the National Unit for Crime Investigation (YAMAR) successfully established a strong evidentiary basis against the suspect. YAMAR investigation team leader Sergeant Major Yitzhak Dahan described the case as a severe act of violence against a foreign worker who was caring for an elderly couple. He emphasized the swift and thorough police work that led to the suspect's arrest and the submission of the prosecutorial statement.

Magen David Adom paramedic Benny Kister recounted arriving at the scene on the day of the murder, joining police officers who directed them to a roughly 40-year-old man lying unconscious without pulse or breathing and with bodily injuries. Medical tests were conducted, and death was pronounced at the scene.
