Police Find Helmets Linked to Missing Eldar Dayan Amid Ongoing Investigation
Israeli police detectives from the Negev district have located two helmets believed to have been used by missing man Eldar Dayan and his friends on the day he disappeared, potentially shedding light on his current whereabouts. Dayan has been missing since July 18, and authorities suspect he went into hiding after driving without a license and injuring a friend, possibly fleeing to avoid investigation.
Dayan's friends, Omri Peretz and Maxim Berberman, had their detention extended by four days. Police sources revealed that Berberman remains silent during questioning, while Peretz has provided limited information and was caught lying. On July 18, Dayan, Peretz, and Berberman traveled from Dimona to central Israel, arriving at a park in Hod Hasharon where a fight broke out between Dayan and his two friends. Peretz and Berberman left the scene in Berberman's mother's car, leaving Dayan behind, but later returned. All three were reportedly under the influence of drugs during the incident.
Dayan introduced his friends to a group of five men at the park, leading to a confrontation between the two groups. At one point, Peretz attempted to run over one of the men with the car, causing minor injuries and damaging the windshield when the man struck it. Dayan's involvement in the fight was limited, while one of the five men testified that Peretz and Berberman threatened to kill him. The two friends are currently suspected of obstruction, assault causing injury, threats, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Investigations into the fight are being conducted by the Central District Police, while Dayan's disappearance is handled by the Negev District Police. Prosecutors plan to advance charges related to the fight in the coming week.
