Jackals Attack Campers at Lake Kinneret, Injuring 10 People

What began as a family vacation at the Kinneret turned into a frightening overnight incident when a 12-year-old girl, Alis, was attacked by a jackal that entered the tent where she was sleeping at Duga Beach. In total, 10 other people were injured in jackal attacks in the area.

Alis told Ynet that the family spent the day hiking, swimming in the lake, and enjoying the holiday. At night, when she went to sleep, an animal suddenly entered the tent. In the dark, she thought it was her dog and started petting it, only to realize it was a jackal.

Her grandmother, Mira Ganin of Rishon Lezion, was sleeping in the tent with her and woke up to the girl's screams. After turning on the light, the family saw that Alis had injuries to her face and immediately sought help. She was later evacuated to hospital care. While waiting for assistance, other guests came out of nearby tents and said they too had been attacked or injured by jackals.

The wounded were taken to the North Medical Center in Tiberias. Ganin said Alis received medical treatment and will later need to continue rabies treatment through the Health Ministry. She added that the girl is also dealing with fear over the marks on her face, just one month before her bat mitzvah. Alis's aunt said the family heard a loud scream from the tent, then saw jackals running between the tents, ending the pleasant trip in panic and a hospital evacuation.
