Iran Denies Any Agreement to Reopen Strait of Hormuz Despite Trump Claims

Iran has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's assertion that an agreement was reached to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iran's Fars news agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, reports of a new deal are false. Iranian sources stated that the strait will remain closed as long as the U.S. continues its "hostile actions," and that ship passage will only be allowed through pre-announced routes with approval from the Revolutionary Guards Navy.

Earlier, Trump announced he had canceled a planned military strike against Iran, despite the U.S. being "armed and ready" for a large-scale operation. He said the decision followed requests from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to avoid escalation amid progress in negotiations. Trump claimed the emerging understandings included an "immediate, full, and complete" reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a commitment to end Iran's nuclear threat. He also said Israel had joined the initiative, though he did not specify Israel's role.

Iranian state media portrayed Trump's cancellation as another U.S. retreat. The IRNA news agency described it as a recurring pattern of threats followed by withdrawal, while Fars mocked Trump's statements as a "repeated story." Kayhan newspaper, known as a regime mouthpiece, accused Trump of backing down after a week of false claims and urged Tehran's leadership not to be swayed by American messages. Iranian officials also dismissed Trump's claim that Iran sought to prevent the strike as a "new lie," asserting their forces remain at the highest readiness and warning that any military confrontation would decisively reveal who holds power.
