Hapoel Tel Aviv Signs Guard Eugene German to Strengthen Backcourt for EuroLeague Debut

Hapoel Tel Aviv announced the signing of 28-year-old American guard Eugene German to a one-year contract through the 2026/27 season. Standing 1.83 meters tall, German will bolster the backcourt under coach Dimitris Itoudis and will have his first opportunity to play in the EuroLeague.

German began the last season with the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association, averaging 18.3 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game, with a 40.1% three-point shooting rate. After finishing in China, he joined Indios de Mayagüez in Puerto Rico, where he averaged 17.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds over eight games.

His professional career started in Greece with Ionikos, followed by a stint in Turkey with Merkezefendi, and multiple seasons in China with Qingdao Eagles, Fujian Sturgeons, and Beijing. Prior to turning pro, German played four seasons at Northern Illinois University, finishing as the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,312 points.

German expressed excitement about joining Hapoel Tel Aviv, praising the fans and promising to bring energy and commitment to help win a championship. Coach Dimitris Itoudis highlighted German's scoring versatility and motivation to improve alongside the strong roster. Sporting director George Chinas described him as a proven scorer and aggressive leader who will add a new dimension to the team's play.
