Hapoel Tel Aviv Targets Eugene German and Jamir Young for Guard Position

Hapoel Tel Aviv is actively pursuing a third guard to complement Vasilya Mitsits and Tomas Satoransky, with Eugene German and Jamir Young emerging as the leading candidates. Both players are in advanced negotiations with the club, aiming to finalize a deal with one of them soon.

Eugene German, a 28-year-old combo guard standing 1.83 meters tall, played college basketball at Northern Illinois, where he became the school's all-time leading scorer with over 2,000 points. After going undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft, German built an international career across Greece, Turkey, China, and Puerto Rico. Last season, he averaged 17.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game with Indios de Mayagüez in Puerto Rico, following a stint in the Chinese league. His most notable performance came in Turkey's top league with Merkezefendi, where he averaged 18 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. German is recognized as a skilled scorer capable of creating points through drives and outside shooting.

Jamir Young, 25 and 1.88 meters tall, played college basketball at Charlotte and Maryland, establishing himself as a key player. Undrafted in 2024, he began his professional career in the NBA G League and earned opportunities with the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat. Recently, Young impressed in the NBA Summer League, averaging 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.

As a backup option, Hapoel is considering Cameron Payne, a 31-year-old guard with extensive NBA experience, including over 500 games and a 2021 NBA Finals appearance with the Phoenix Suns. Payne played last season for Partizan Belgrade in the EuroLeague before exercising a contract exit clause to return to the NBA with Philadelphia.

Another lower-priority candidate is veteran Spencer Dinwiddie, who left Bayern Munich in January after a brief two-month stint due to personal reasons. Dinwiddie averaged 11.7 points, 2.9 assists, and 2 rebounds in 11 EuroLeague games and 13 points with 3.6 assists in the German league but has not played since his departure.

Hapoel Tel Aviv is finalizing its search for the last piece in its backcourt puzzle ahead of the upcoming season.
