Hapoel Tel Aviv Targets Eugene German and Jamir Young for Guard Position

Hapoel Tel Aviv is actively seeking to fill the final spot in their backcourt, with Eugene German and Jamir Young emerging as the leading candidates. The club aims to add a third guard alongside Vasily Micić and Tomáš Satoranský, and is currently in advanced talks with both players to finalize a signing.

Eugene German, a 28-year-old combo guard standing 1.83 meters tall, played college basketball at Northern Illinois where he became the school's all-time leading scorer with over 2,000 points. After going undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft, German pursued an international career across Greece, Turkey, China, and Puerto Rico. Last season, he averaged 17.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game with Indios de Mayagüez in Puerto Rico. His most notable stint was in the Turkish top league with Merkezefendi, where he posted 18 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. German is recognized as a skilled scorer capable of creating points through drives and outside shooting.

Jamir Young, 25, is an American guard standing 1.88 meters tall who played college basketball at Charlotte and Maryland. After going undrafted in 2024, he started his professional career in the NBA G League and had brief opportunities with the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat. Recently, Young impressed in the NBA Summer League, averaging 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.

If negotiations with German and Young do not materialize, Hapoel Tel Aviv has Cameron Payne as an alternative. Payne, 31, is a veteran NBA guard with experience on multiple teams including Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, and Philadelphia 76ers. He reached the 2021 NBA Finals with the Suns and has played over 500 NBA games. Last season, Payne played for Partizan Belgrade in the EuroLeague, averaging 12.4 points and 3.9 assists in 10 games before exercising a contract opt-out to return to the NBA.

Another lower-priority candidate is Spencer Dinwiddie, who left Bayern Munich in January after a short stint due to personal reasons. During his time there, he averaged 11.7 points and 2.9 assists in EuroLeague play and 13 points with 3.6 assists in the German league but has not played since his departure.

Hapoel Tel Aviv is expected to finalize the signing of one of these guards soon to complete their roster for the upcoming season.
