3-Year-Old Dies After Suspected Meningococcal Infection
A 3-year-old boy died on Saturday morning after arriving in septic shock at Dana Children’s Hospital, part of Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv. The hospital said there was a clinical suspicion of meningococcemia, a severe infection caused by meningococcal bacteria.
According to the medical team, the child was brought to the emergency department in the morning and staff immediately began resuscitation efforts while trying to stabilize him. Despite those attempts, his condition did not improve and doctors were forced to declare him dead.
Following the case, the hospital urged parents to vaccinate children. It said there is a vaccine against meningococcus B that is recommended by the Israel Pediatric Association.
