Two-Year-Old Dies at Soroka in Suspected Meningococcemia Case
A two-year-old toddler who died this week at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba is suspected of having suffered from meningococcemia, a deadly form of sepsis caused by a virulent bacterium. The case comes shortly after a three-year-old toddler died at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv after developing septic shock and a clinical suspicion of meningococcemia.
Hospital officials said there is a vaccine against meningococcal B, which is recommended by the Israeli Pediatric Association. They urged parents to vaccinate infants and toddlers, saying this can save lives.
