Extreme Heat Wave Hits Israel During Bein Hazmanim Period, Red Alert Issued

Israel's Meteorological Service has issued a red alert warning travelers of an extreme heat wave intensifying during the Bein Hazmanim period, the break between academic terms. The heat wave is expected to worsen daily, bringing heavy to extreme heat burdens and scorching conditions especially in the mountains and inland areas through Saturday.

Today, after morning clouds clear, temperatures will rise slightly, with hot and dry weather in the mountains and inland, while the coastal plain remains mild. Local fog may reduce visibility in southern coastal plains, the southern Shephelah, and northwest Negev overnight. Specific areas under red alert include the Beit She'an Valley, Sea of Galilee Basin, Jordan Valley, southern Judean Desert, Dead Sea, and northern Arava.

Thursday will see a further slight temperature increase, with hot to scorching conditions in the mountains and inland, and mild weather along the coast. Heavy to extreme heat burdens will prevail across most of the country. Friday and Saturday will continue with generally clear skies, maintaining hot to scorching temperatures inland and mild coastal weather, with heat burdens intensifying further.

Forecasted temperatures for today and tonight include Jerusalem 18-32°C, Tel Aviv 24-31°C, Beersheba 21-35°C, Haifa 23-31°C, Tiberias 22-37°C, Safed 18-33°C, and Eilat 28-41°C. Travelers are advised to avoid the hottest regions and take precautions against the severe heat.
