Israel Faces Record Heatwave with Temperatures Reaching 46°C in Jordan Valley

Israel is bracing for an intense heatwave expected to peak between Friday and Sunday, with extreme heat conditions forecast across most of the country. The Meteorological Service warns of heavy to extreme heat burdens, particularly in the Jordan Valley where temperatures could soar to 46 degrees Celsius.

Dr. Amir Givati, head of the Meteorological Service in Beit Dagan, explained that the heatwave will bring the hottest days of the current summer. Evening temperatures near the Sea of Galilee are expected to reach 44 to 45 degrees Celsius, while the Golan Heights, northern valleys, Galilee, and Negev will experience temperatures between 38 and 42 degrees. Mountainous areas, the coastal plain, and the Shephelah region will see highs of 35 to 36 degrees.

Temperatures will start rising slightly on Wednesday, especially in the mountains and inland areas, with dry and hotter than usual conditions. By Thursday, the heat will intensify further, with heavy to extreme heat across most regions, while the coastal plain will remain relatively cooler.

The heatwave coincides with the peak of summer vacation, drawing many families to outdoor activities and the Sea of Galilee. Visitors are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially in the eastern valleys, southern areas, and around the lake. The Sea of Galilee's water level currently stands at 212.985 meters below sea level, with increased evaporation due to the heatwave.

City-specific forecasts include Jerusalem with temperatures between 23 and 33 degrees Celsius, Tel Aviv and Haifa at 26 to 31 degrees, Tiberias at 26 to 38 degrees, and Eilat reaching up to 41 degrees. Nights will remain hot and humid along the coastal plain and Shephelah, while higher mountain areas will experience relatively cooler evenings.
