IDF Central Command Chief Appeals Defense Minister's Cancellation of Administrative Detention Order

The commander of the IDF Central Command, Major General Avi Blot, has filed an urgent appeal to the Jerusalem District Court against Defense Minister Israel Katz's decision to cancel the administrative detention order against settler activist Tal Yinon Dardik. Dardik, a resident of the illegal outpost Kfar Tapuach in the Jordan Valley, has been on a hunger strike for about three weeks after his detention and was recently hospitalized due to deteriorating health.

The administrative detention was initially imposed following intelligence reports suggesting Dardik intended to harm Palestinians in the area. He was restricted to the settlement of Adi Ad after allegedly violating the Central Commander's order. Dardik is suspected of involvement in a March raid on the Palestinian village of Humsa in the Jordan Valley, where Palestinians reported severe attacks, including beatings and sexual assault, with victims including children.

The legal organization Honenu criticized the appeal, accusing Major General Blot and the military prosecution of opposing the Defense Minister's public stance and undermining Israeli democracy by challenging the elected official's decision. Attorney Moshe Polsky, representing Dardik, plans to respond to the appeal and demand his release. The dispute highlights tensions between military command and civilian leadership over the use of administrative detention in the West Bank.

Dardik's case has drawn public attention due to his hunger strike and the serious allegations surrounding the incident in Humsa. The Central Commander's appeal seeks to reinstate the detention order to prevent potential harm to Palestinians, while the Defense Minister's cancellation reflects a different approach to the case.
