Israeli Military and Prosecution Appeal to Uphold Administrative Detention of Tal Yinon Dradik

The Central Command Chief, Major General Avi Blot, and the Jerusalem District Prosecution filed an appeal on Tuesday with the Jerusalem District Court against the Judea and Samaria Appeals Committee, seeking to maintain the administrative detention order against Tal Yinon Dradik. This move contradicts the position of Defense Minister Israel Katz, who earlier the same day instructed not to renew Dradik's detention order.

The legal organization Honenu criticized the appeal, stating that despite Katz's public directive, the military commander and prosecution are challenging the elected leadership, which they described as an infringement on Israeli democracy and governance. Dradik's attorney, Moshe Polsky, representing him through Honenu, plans to respond to the appeal and demand Dradik's release. Honenu also urged Defense Minister Katz to exercise his authority to prevent bureaucratic overreach.

Earlier, Katz decided not to extend Dradik's administrative detention after a security discussion involving the IDF Chief of Staff, Central Command Chief, Judea and Samaria Police Commander, the Shin Bet, and other security officials. The decision followed the military appeals committee's acceptance of an appeal against Dradik's removal order, citing procedural flaws. Katz instructed that alternative measures be sought to address the issue rather than renewing the detention order. Dradik is currently on a hunger strike and hospitalized.
