Defense Minister Katz Orders Not to Renew Administrative Detention Order Against Tal Yinon Dradik

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has instructed not to renew the administrative detention order issued against Tal Yinon Dradik. This decision follows a ruling by the military appeals committee in the West Bank, which accepted an appeal against the order due to procedural flaws in its issuance. The original order was issued by the Central Command chief based on recommendations from the Shin Bet security service. Katz directed that instead of renewing the order, the underlying issue should be addressed through alternative means.

The legal rights organization Honenu praised Katz's decision, stating that the administrative detention order was unlawful and calling on the Central Command chief to focus efforts on combating terrorism rather than targeting Jewish individuals. The decision was made during a security discussion held on Monday regarding the West Bank, attended by top military and security officials including IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi, the head of operations, the Military Intelligence Directorate chief, Central Command commander, and representatives from the Shin Bet and police.

During the meeting, Katz also instructed the IDF to intensify offensive operations against Arab terrorism in the West Bank. Plans include preparing for the takeover of another refugee camp, following the model used in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur al-Shams, which involves evacuating residents, dismantling terror infrastructure, and maintaining a permanent military presence. Officials noted that since Katz took office, supported by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, terror activity has decreased by approximately 80% in 2025, with the decline continuing into 2026.
