Large Fire and Ammonia Leak Prompt Evacuation in Sderot Industrial Zone
A significant fire broke out on July 27, 2026, in the industrial area of Sderot, affecting two factories operated by Strauss and Tapugan. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the blaze involved both facilities, and during their operations, an ammonia leak was detected from one of the factories. As a precaution, authorities ordered the evacuation of everyone in the industrial zone to ensure public safety.
Emergency services deployed 13 firefighting teams to contain the fire. Magen David Adom (MDA) reported treating three individuals with minor injuries: one due to smoke inhalation and two with physical injuries. Police and rescue teams are working to isolate the area, and the police have urged the public to avoid the vicinity to prevent unnecessary risk.
The incident remains under active management by emergency responders, with ongoing efforts to control the fire and secure the hazardous materials leak. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
