Firefighters Gain Control Over Major Blaze at Sha'ar HaNegev Industrial Zone

A large fire broke out on Monday in the Sha'ar HaNegev industrial area near Sderot, involving three buildings including facilities of Strauss and Tapogen. After hours of intense firefighting efforts, firefighters succeeded in gaining control over the blaze, preventing its spread to additional structures. The operation involved dozens of firefighting teams supported by Elad firefighting aircraft and other units.

Early concerns about hazardous material leaks were ruled out following inspections. Five firefighters sustained minor injuries during the response, including one rescued by the specialized Lahava unit, and one civilian was affected by smoke inhalation. Residents of the nearby Music neighborhood were advised to stay indoors and keep windows closed as a precaution.

Road closures remain in effect around the fire zone, including Highway 232 east-west and the entrance to Sderot from Highway 34 in both directions. Israel Railways temporarily suspended service at Sderot station until further notice. Firefighters continue final extinguishing operations, hot spot suppression, and thorough area inspections to prevent any flare-ups.
