Large Fire Erupts Near Sderot Industrial Zone, Ammonia Leak Ruled Out

A major fire broke out on the morning of July 27, 2026, at warehouses within the Tafogen factory complex in the industrial area near Sderot, located in the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council. The fire caused heavy smoke visible from a distance. One firefighter and one civilian suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries.

Initial reports from the Israel Fire and Rescue Services indicated a possible ammonia leak from one of the factories, which handles hazardous materials. However, this concern was later dismissed after further investigation. Firefighters responded with 13 teams, supported by additional units from other districts, working to contain the fire, prevent its spread, and protect nearby buildings.

Authorities instructed the evacuation of all individuals from the industrial area and the adjacent "Mall 7" shopping center. Residents of the nearby Music neighborhood in Sderot were advised to stay indoors and keep windows closed. The Sderot municipality deployed teams to assist emergency responders. Police forces secured the area, conducted searches, and managed traffic to ensure public safety and facilitate emergency operations. The public was urged to avoid the area to prevent unnecessary risk and allow emergency personnel to work efficiently.
