Israeli Traffic Officer Indicted for Sexual Extortion Using Police Data

The Department for the Investigation of Police Officers in the State Attorney's Office filed an indictment on Sunday against 28-year-old traffic officer Samer Sheikh from Abu Snan in the Western Galilee. Sheikh, who served in the Yarkon traffic division, is accused of multiple offenses including sexual harassment, indecent acts, extortion by threats, privacy violations, impersonation, fraud, and breach of trust. Over several years, he allegedly exploited his access to police databases to obtain personal information about women, whom he then targeted.

According to the indictment submitted to the Haifa District Court by attorney Sivan Shpeizer, Sheikh created fake social media profiles under various male and female identities to contact women, including complainants. He sent sexually explicit messages and videos, threatened to distribute intimate materials, and in some cases extorted victims to comply with his sexual or financial demands. He also sent pornographic content to victims' family members, falsely claiming the women appeared in the videos.

Sheikh reportedly used police information systems beyond his official duties to gather personal data and store photos on his devices. Evidence includes videos and photos recovered from his phone, and communication analysis linked harassing phone numbers to his iPhone 12. Sheikh was arrested about a month ago, with his detention repeatedly extended by the Haifa Magistrate's Court. However, the main phone used for the offenses was not seized.

The investigation unit requested to extend Sheikh's detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings, citing a real and ongoing danger to the complainants and other women. The threats ranged from non-consensual sexual acts to damage to reputation through dissemination of intimate content. Judge Dr. Zaid Falah ordered Sheikh's continued detention after reviewing the evidence and the defense's request for time to study the case. Sheikh denies all charges, and his lawyer emphasized the need for thorough examination of the circumstantial and scientific evidence. The Israel Police did not respond to requests for comment.
