Israeli Police Officer Indicted for Using Databases to Harass Women

A serious indictment was filed on July 20, 2026, against a traffic division police officer in Haifa, Israel, accused of exploiting police databases to harass women. The officer allegedly accessed personal information of women through official police records, then created fake WhatsApp accounts to impersonate men and women, using these identities to sexually harass multiple victims over several years.

The indictment includes 14 charges such as extortion by threats, sexual harassment, impersonation, invasion of privacy, fraud, and threats via telecommunications. The officer reportedly sent sexually explicit messages and videos, made repeated sexual propositions, and contacted victims' family members. In some cases, he threatened to distribute intimate images and videos unless his demands were met. One victim was coerced into complying with his demands due to these threats, resulting in additional charges related to causing an indecent act.

The Police Investigations Department (Mahash) emphasized that the accused repeatedly abused his authorized access to police information systems to carry out these offenses. Despite victims clearly rejecting contact, he persisted in sending threatening and sexual messages. A gag order was imposed on the officer's name and the complainants’ identities to protect their privacy. The case is now before the Haifa District Court, marking a rare and severe indictment against a police officer for such misconduct.
