Israeli Police Officer Indicted for Using Databases to Harass Women

A police officer from the Traffic Department in Israel has been indicted on 14 charges, including extortion, sexual harassment, and impersonation, after allegedly exploiting police databases to locate and harass women. The indictment, filed by the Police Investigations Department (Mahash) at the Haifa District Court on July 20, 2026, accuses the officer of repeatedly using his access to sensitive police information to identify personal details of women over several years.

According to the indictment, the officer created fake WhatsApp accounts, impersonating both men and women, to send sexually explicit messages, propositions, and pornographic videos to the victims. He also contacted their family members and, in some cases, threatened to distribute intimate photos and videos unless his demands were met. In one instance, the officer sent intimate content to a victim's brother and fiancé. One victim was coerced into complying with his demands due to these threats, leading to additional charges including causing an indecent act.

The indictment details a pattern of behavior involving 14 counts such as extortion by threats, sexual harassment, identity fraud, privacy violations, and harassment via telecommunications. The accused continued his harassment even after being told the women did not want contact. A gag order has been imposed on the officer's name and the victims' identities to protect their privacy.

This case highlights serious breaches of trust and abuse of authority within the Israeli police force, with the investigation and prosecution handled by Mahash, the body responsible for police misconduct cases.
