Heatwave Hits Israel with Temperatures Rising 3-4 Degrees in One Day

Temperatures in Israel surged by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius on Saturday compared to previous days, accompanied by increased humidity along the coastal plain. In the mountains and Jerusalem, temperatures reached 33 degrees Celsius, while the lowlands experienced 35 degrees. The hottest location was Sodom, recording 43.3 degrees Celsius. Coastal cities Ashkelon, Nahariya, and Tel Aviv saw relative humidity levels of 73%, 72%, and 70% respectively, combined with temperatures around 30 degrees, creating intense heat stress in these areas.

The heatwave is expected to intensify early next week, with temperatures rising an additional 1 to 2 degrees on Sunday and Monday, further increasing heat burdens. Aside from a brief and temporary relief anticipated toward the end of next week, no significant change in weather patterns is forecasted. Dr. Amir Givati, head of the Meteorological Service, stated that long-term forecasts indicate the second half of July will be hotter than usual, with some days experiencing significantly elevated temperatures.

This marks a sharp departure from the more comfortable weather experienced in June, signaling a prolonged period of heavy heat stress ahead for Israel.
