IDF Seizes Hezbollah Stronghold in Bint Jbeil, Destroys Historic Stadium Symbolizing Nasrallah's Threats
Twenty years after the Second Lebanon War and 26 years since Hassan Nasrallah's infamous "Spider Web" speech, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have completed a major operational takeover of Hezbollah's strongholds in Bint Jbeil and Ainata in southern Lebanon. The joint operation, named "Roar of the Lion," involved units from IDF's 98th and 91st Divisions encircling and gaining full control over these key villages long used by Hezbollah to plan and execute attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.
During the operation, IDF forces destroyed over 1,500 terror infrastructure sites and eliminated more than 500 armed Hezbollah militants. A significant symbolic act was the demolition of the local municipal stadium in Bint Jbeil, where Nasrallah delivered his 1997 speech predicting Israel's collapse. This stadium had become a prominent emblem of Hezbollah's propaganda against Israel.
The ground maneuver was executed swiftly and efficiently, with the 98th Division securing operational control of Bint Jbeil within about a week. The forces focused on dismantling Hezbollah's extensive terror networks embedded within civilian areas, neutralizing threats such as high-trajectory fire aimed at Israel. After completing their mission, the 98th Division moved on to other combat zones in southern Lebanon.
Simultaneously, the 91st Division entered Bint Jbeil and Ainata to consolidate and strengthen IDF's operational hold. They continue systematic sweeps to locate and destroy remaining terror infrastructure, aiming to eliminate immediate threats to northern Israeli communities and prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its forces near the border.
The operation revealed the scale of Hezbollah's military buildup within civilian populations, including advanced weaponry like anti-tank missiles, ready-to-fire launchers, large ammunition depots, and fortified command centers deliberately placed inside residential buildings, schools, and civilian infrastructure to use locals as human shields. The destruction of the stadium near the operation's end symbolically closed a historic chapter in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
