IDF Reveals 20-Year-Old Operations Against Hezbollah in Bint Jbeil During Second Lebanon War

On the 20th anniversary of the Second Lebanon War, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released documentation of the activities carried out by the 98th and 91st Divisions in Bint Jbeil, a town in southern Lebanon that served as a central Hezbollah stronghold for years. The operations took place during Operation "Roaring Lion," in which the two divisions encircled the terrorist villages of Bint Jbeil and Ainata.

The 98th Division entered Bint Jbeil and achieved operational control within about a week. During the operation, forces destroyed terrorist infrastructure, neutralized anti-tank threats, and eliminated militants before moving on to other sectors. Simultaneously, the 91st Division entered the area to consolidate and strengthen operational control.

The IDF stated that efforts continue to eradicate remaining terrorist infrastructure and fully clear the area to remove threats to Israel. According to IDF data, the 91st and 98th Divisions have destroyed over 1,500 terrorist facilities and killed more than 500 militants. Hundreds of weapons caches embedded within civilian infrastructure, including Hezbollah command centers, rocket launchers, and arms depots, were also uncovered.

The IDF emphasized that Bint Jbeil was a symbol and stronghold of Hezbollah terrorism, from which hundreds of attacks against Israeli forces and civilians were planned and executed.
