Man Charged with Murder, Arson, and Evidence Tampering in Coastal Highway Killing

The State Prosecutor's Office has filed a murder indictment against 46-year-old Emil Avshaib for the killing of Yoav Gilboa. According to the indictment, Avshaib stabbed Gilboa 59 times during an incident on the Coastal Highway, then fled the scene.

The events unfolded when Avshaib and Gilboa were traveling together in Avshaib's car. Gilboa stopped the vehicle and exited, after which Avshaib continued driving alone. Avshaib later returned to the location where Gilboa was attempting to hitchhike, stopped, and fatally stabbed him multiple times.

Following the murder, Avshaib returned home in Hadera. His son, David Avshaib, was informed and helped clean the car to remove evidence. Later that night, Avshaib and Ruslan Abramov, the partner of Avshaib's sister, purchased gasoline and returned to the crime scene to set Gilboa's body on fire to destroy evidence. The next morning, Avshaib's sister, Ella Avshaib, and her partner further cleaned the vehicle.

Three other family members are charged with aiding in evidence concealment and obstructing justice. The charges against Emil Avshaib include intentional murder under aggravating circumstances, arson, obstruction of justice, driving without a valid license, and driving without insurance. The investigation was conducted by the Coastal District Unit of the Israeli Police.
