Man Charged with Murder of Yoav Gelboin After Stabbing and Burning Body
Emil Avshaib, 46, from Hadera, has been indicted for the murder of Yoav Gelboin, 53, from Tel Aviv. According to the indictment filed on Thursday, Avshaib stabbed Gelboin 59 times with a knife and later set his body on fire to destroy evidence. The incident occurred on the Coastal Road, where Gelboin and Avshaib were traveling together in Avshaib's car. Gelboin exited the vehicle at the roadside, and Avshaib initially drove away but then returned, stopped, and attacked him.
After the stabbing, Avshaib fled the scene, leaving Gelboin's body on the roadside. Upon returning to Hadera, Avshaib's 22-year-old son, David, learned of the murder and helped clean the car to remove traces of the crime. Later that evening, Avshaib and Ruslan Abramov, 37, the partner of Avshaib's sister, bought gasoline and returned to the crime scene early the next morning to burn the body. Avshaib's sister, Ella Avshaib, 47, and Abramov also helped clean the car again afterward.
Gelboin's body was discovered on Shavuot Friday, but due to the burning, his identity remained unknown for several days. Investigators identified Avshaib's vehicle through security camera footage. Avshaib had recently completed a 10-year prison sentence. The motive for the murder remains unclear. The indictment charges Avshaib with intentional murder under aggravating circumstances, arson, obstruction of justice, driving without a valid license, and driving without insurance. The three family members face charges related to arson and obstruction of justice.
Separately, the article notes that the ex-husband of Leah Malka, suspected of her murder, was released to house arrest after allegedly shooting their young daughter and attempting to cover up evidence, with charges expected soon.
