Jerusalem police have opened a formal criminal investigation after serious complaints accused a caregiver of abusing and neglecting toddlers under her supervision. The suspect, a 49-year-old resident of the Har Homa neighborhood in Jerusalem, allegedly acted aggressively toward two toddlers who were in her direct care.
According to the investigation materials, she repeatedly shouted at the children and cursed at them. Police also suspect deliberate neglect, saying she ignored the toddlers' crying and basic needs while they were her responsibility.
Officers from the Oz Station in the Jerusalem District moved quickly after the complaints were filed, collecting evidence and findings at the scene to support the suspicions. After building an initial evidentiary basis, police raided the suspect's home last night, arrested her, and took her in for questioning at a police facility.
Today she was brought before a judge at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, where her detention was extended to allow investigators to continue their work. The case remains under active investigation.
