Six years after Sergeant First Class Amit Ben Yigal was killed, a military court in Samaria has sentenced the terrorist responsible to life imprisonment. Nad'mi Abu Bakr was convicted of causing death with intent, the equivalent of murder in Judea and Samaria, and obstruction of justice.

On May 12, 2020, Israeli security forces were operating in the village of Ya'bad to arrest wanted individuals. During the operation, Abu Bakr threw a half-brick weighing between nine and 11 kilograms from a building's roof at IDF soldiers, intending to kill them. The projectile struck Sergeant First Class Ben Yigal, who was 21 at the time, causing his death.

Following the attack, Abu Bakr fled to his home and feigned sleep to evade capture. After security forces left, he returned to the scene, collected the brick fragments, and discarded them to hinder the investigation.

The military court accepted the prosecution's stance on May 11, 2026, convicting Abu Bakr after hearing witness testimonies and the defendant's own account. The sentencing on Thursday included a life sentence and a financial compensation order of over four million shekels.

Sergeant First Class Amit Ben Yigal, of the Golani Brigade's reconnaissance unit, was killed during an operational activity in Ya'bad. The legal proceedings against his killer have now concluded with this life sentence.
