A military court in Samaria has sentenced Nazmi Abu Bakr to life imprisonment for the premeditated murder of Sergeant First Class Amit Ben-Yigal, a soldier in the reconnaissance unit of the Golani Brigade. Abu Bakr was also convicted of obstructing justice.

Ben-Yigal was killed during an operation in the village of Ya'bad, near Jenin. According to the prosecution, Abu Bakr dropped a heavy construction block from a height onto IDF soldiers, causing the fatal injury to Ben-Yigal.

Following the attack, Abu Bakr returned to his home, lay down in his children's room, and feigned sleep in an attempt to mislead security forces. After soldiers left the village, he disposed of fragments of the block in roadside bushes to hinder the investigation.
