Netanyahu Details Alleged Attempt to Down Flydubai Jet in Saudi Arabia

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed details of an alleged security incident aboard a Flydubai flight that landed in Saudi Arabia, stating that Israeli authorities are coordinating with Saudi officials to ensure the safe return of Israeli passengers.

In a video statement, Netanyahu recounted a conversation with an Israeli passenger who described how, with the help of a crew member, they managed to reach the cockpit and subdue the pilot. According to the Israeli account, the pilot had stabbed a colleague and was attempting to tamper with the aircraft's systems.

Netanyahu confirmed that all passengers are now safe and that the pilot involved in the stabbing has been apprehended by Saudi authorities and is under investigation. He assured the public that ongoing security assessments are being conducted and updates will be provided.

Speculation is mounting in Israel that the incident may have had a security motive, with suggestions that the co-pilot intended to crash the plane, potentially endangering the Israeli passengers. The possibility of Iranian involvement or direction is also being considered but remains unconfirmed.

Following the incident, some Israeli passengers reportedly refused to board a subsequent Flydubai evacuation flight, citing fears for their safety. In response, Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev has urged Netanyahu to immediately halt Flydubai flights to Israel until the investigation concludes. Regev also advocated for prioritizing flights operated by Israeli airlines, such as El Al, Israir, and Arkia, highlighting their stringent security screening procedures.
