Israeli Leaders React to FlyDubai Incident, Urge Security Measures

An incident aboard a FlyDubai flight has prompted strong reactions from Israeli politicians, with calls for heightened security and expressions of pride in the passengers' actions. Transportation Minister Miri Regev has urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt all FlyDubai flights until the incident is fully investigated. She also advised citizens to prioritize Israeli airlines, citing their stringent security checks.

Several political figures lauded the courage and resourcefulness of the Israeli passengers. Benny Gantz, leader of the "National Unity" party, stated that the incident once again proved Israelis to be a unique people, highlighting the bravery shown by passengers who risked their lives. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir condemned the act as terrorism, emphasizing that such threats must be met with complete destruction rather than mercy. Yair Golan of the "Democrats" party drew parallels to the October 7th attacks, crediting mutual responsibility and solidarity among passengers for preventing a catastrophe.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich asserted that the perpetrator, who allegedly intended to destroy the plane and kill 180 Israelis, should be judged by intent and face consequences as if murder had occurred, including any state or organization that sent him.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Yair Lapid clarified that he received no information during a prior meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu that could have indicated a threat similar to the FlyDubai incident. Lapid accused Netanyahu's supporters of attempting to politicize the event and link it to prior warnings issued by the prime minister. Lapid had previously stated after a meeting that security forces were prepared for elections and there was no cause for panic.
