FlyDubai Flight to Tel Aviv Diverted to Saudi Arabia After Pilot Altercation

A FlyDubai flight en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv was diverted to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning following the activation of an alert that initially suggested a hijacking. The aircraft, carrying 180 Israeli passengers, landed safely in Saudi territory. During the flight, the crew activated transponder code 7500, which signifies an unlawful interference onboard, and briefly transmitted code 7700, indicating a general emergency. The flight, FZ1073, turned back over Jordan and proceeded to Saudi Arabia at an altitude of approximately 15,000 feet. Israeli fighter jets were dispatched to intercept the plane. The aircraft briefly disappeared from air traffic monitoring systems, and no communication was reportedly established with air traffic control. Israel initially denied permission for the plane to land on its territory until the incident's circumstances were clarified. The flight eventually made contact with Saudi authorities and landed in the kingdom. FlyDubai stated that the alert was triggered by a severe altercation between the pilots in the cockpit. Israeli assessments now favor the theory of an internal aircraft incident, ruling out a security-related hijacking. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz held an emergency meeting regarding the situation. The IDF Chief of Staff also conducted an assessment with the Air Force commander and heads of military operations and intelligence. Transportation Minister Miri Regev is closely monitoring the incident with security services. The U.S. Central Command was also involved in managing the situation.
