Syrian Forces Thwart Hezbollah Missile Launchers Near Golan Heights

Syrian internal security forces and the General Intelligence Directorate have apprehended a cell linked to Hezbollah that was attempting to deploy missile launchers in the Yarmouk Basin area of Daraa province, close to the Israeli border. The operation, described as proactive, followed precise surveillance of the three-member cell, whose identities have not been fully disclosed, only their initials. The launchers, intended for attacks aimed at disrupting public order, were dismantled, and the detainees are undergoing investigation.

The Yarmouk Basin region, adjacent to the Golan Heights, is considered of paramount security importance and has seen extensive military activity in recent months, including patrols. Since assuming power, the Syrian regime has consistently acted against the activities of Lebanese Hezbollah, which previously served as a key proxy for Bashar al-Assad. This policy has led to several reported counter-terrorism operations, including the arrest of a terror cell in western Damascus province with 19 Grad rockets and anti-tank missiles, the foiling of an advanced weapons and missile smuggling operation from Iraq in July, and the dismantling of cells planning assassinations of government officials.

Hezbollah, however, continues to deny any presence or operational activity within Syria.
