Syria Thwarts Smuggling of 150 Explosive Drones and Missiles to Hezbollah via Iraq Border
Syrian security forces intercepted a truck attempting to smuggle a large cache of weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon through the Syria-Iraq border. The truck, which was supposed to deliver its cargo to the coastal city of Baniyas, was stopped at the border crossing after customs officials grew suspicious and conducted a search. Authorities discovered 150 explosive drones, anti-tank missiles, and long-range missiles concealed inside the vehicle.
The Syrian Interior Ministry confirmed the seizure and stated that the investigation is ongoing to identify all individuals involved in the smuggling attempt. According to the Syrian General Authority for Borders and Customs, the truck was disguised as a large oil transport vehicle. The ministry emphasized that the weapons were intended for Hezbollah in Lebanon, highlighting the cross-border arms trafficking risks in the region.
Security forces continue to probe the incident to uncover the full network behind the smuggling operation and prevent further illicit arms transfers.
