Syrian Security Forces Arrest Hezbollah-Linked Cell Planning Attacks on Israel

Syrian security forces have apprehended three individuals in the Daraa province, whom authorities allege are connected to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. According to Syria's Ministry of Interior, the operation took place in the Yarmouk area in the country's southwest, near the border with Israel. The detained suspects, identified only by their initials F.K., Z.M., and L.A., were reportedly preparing rocket launchers for planned attacks. The operation was carried out by the General Directorate of Intelligence and Internal Security forces following surveillance of the group. Authorities stated that the launchers were dismantled and the suspects handed over for investigation. Details regarding the specific rockets, the number of launchers, or intended targets have not been officially disclosed. The Yarmouk area is situated in the western part of Daraa province, close to the Golan Heights. This region has seen repeated military activity in recent months, including actions by Israeli forces near the villages of Abidin, Jamla, and Maaria. Since the ascent of Ahmad al-Shar'a, Syrian authorities have frequently reported arrests and seizures of weapons allegedly destined for Hezbollah. In July, Damascus announced the disruption of a modern weapons smuggling operation across the Syrian-Iraqi border, believed to be intended for Lebanon.
