Syrian Authorities Arrest Hezbollah Cell Near Golan

Syrian authorities announced on Tuesday the arrest of a three-person cell affiliated with Hezbollah near the occupied Golan Heights. The cell was reportedly planning to carry out operations, according to a statement from the Internal Security Forces broadcast on Syrian state television. The operation, described as preemptive, was conducted by the General Intelligence Directorate in cooperation with internal security forces in the Yarmouk Basin area of Daraa.

The statement detailed that the cell was observed preparing rocket launchers intended for attacks aimed at destabilizing security and stability. These launchers were dismantled, and investigations are ongoing with the detainees before they are referred to the competent judiciary. The new authorities, who reportedly overthrew the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, have adopted a reserved stance regarding Iranian and Hezbollah influence within Syria. They have previously announced the dismantling of Hezbollah cells planning attacks and the seizure of weapons shipments destined for the group, though Hezbollah has denied these accusations.
