Syrian Forces Arrest ISIS Cell Near Golan Heights Amid Arms Smuggling Crackdown

Syrian security forces captured nine ISIS militants in Khan Arnabah, a town near the Golan Heights border with Israel. The detainees were involved in gathering weapons, transporting explosives and components for bomb-making, and facilitating movement of ISIS operatives in the region. Among those arrested was the cell leader, Musab Khalil al-Sheikh, known as "The Chinese." This operation follows a recent Syrian crackdown on a large arms smuggling attempt near the Iraq border, where authorities intercepted a shipment destined for Hezbollah in Lebanon containing 150 explosive drones, long-range missiles, and anti-tank missiles.

These security actions come just two weeks after Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa told Al Jazeera that Syria avoids military confrontations with Israel due to lack of interest and is working on a security arrangement involving other countries that could lead to comprehensive peace. However, al-Sharaa emphasized that Syria will not compromise on its claims to the "occupied Golan." The arrests and arms seizures highlight ongoing tensions and security challenges along Syria's borders, particularly near the strategically sensitive Golan Heights area.
