Opposition Slams Netanyahu Over War Talk, Election Concerns

Israeli opposition leaders have sharply criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following his remarks about a potential new phase of war on one or all fronts. The criticism emerged after Netanyahu addressed Israelis regarding the security situation from the Tel Nof airbase.

The "Yisrael Beiteinu" party, led by Gadi Eisenkot, issued a statement demanding an immediate briefing for opposition leader Yair Lapid if Netanyahu's security concerns are genuine. The party warned against conflating Israel's security with political maneuvering aimed at disrupting the electoral system, stating, "It is unacceptable to mix Israel's security with an election campaign, even in words."

Meanwhile, Yair Golan, head of the "Democrats" party, echoed the sentiment, asserting that Netanyahu must inform the opposition leader and the public if a real threat exists. Golan also accused the prime minister of potentially using security issues to postpone elections.

This exchange follows earlier statements by Netanyahu in early September, where he declared Israel's strongest position ever and the weakening of its adversaries. He also commented on Iran, suggesting it hesitated to attack due to potential consequences and characterizing the Iranian regime as weakened and nearing collapse.

Earlier reports indicated that Netanyahu and Lapid were scheduled to meet on Tuesday at 11:30 PM, following Netanyahu's statement about a potential threat that could impact the upcoming elections.
