Netanyahu Claims Election Impending Attacks; Opposition Skeptical

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated Tuesday during a visit to the Tel Nof Air Force base that "there are signs that ahead of the elections our enemies will try to attack us." He asserted that Israel has eliminated over 100 terrorists in Gaza in recent weeks, emphasizing significant achievements despite immense pressure to withdraw. Netanyahu vowed not to yield to these pressures and declared that Israel's "long arm will reach you anywhere, anytime."

The Prime Minister's remarks sparked political controversy, with the opposition expressing significant doubt. National Unity party leader Benny Gantz criticized Netanyahu's timing, suggesting the statement might be politically motivated to influence the election campaign. Gantz stressed the importance of separating national security from electoral politics, even in appearance.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid also commented on Netanyahu's statement, noting that the Prime Minister "suddenly takes warnings seriously when there are elections." Lapid had recently received a security briefing from Netanyahu.
