IDF Surprised by Netanyahu's Election-Eve Attack Warning

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent statement regarding a potential attack on Israel ahead of elections has reportedly surprised many within the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the security establishment, according to Channel 11, citing security sources. These sources indicated that the issue had not been a recent topic of discussion in meetings or in weekly multi-front situation assessments. One source stated there was no "specific and substantiated information" directly linking election day to a potential escalation, though they acknowledged that election periods are considered sensitive and could theoretically be exploited by Israel's adversaries.

In contrast, the Likud party insists that Netanyahu's statement addresses a real threat, not a political maneuver. Journalist and political analyst Ariel Kahana also told i24News that his information suggests the warning pertains to a genuine threat rather than political posturing.

Channel 11 also reported that a security assessment meeting scheduled for the evening, to be attended by Netanyahu, the Defense Minister, and heads of security agencies, will take place at an "unusual location." While security sources had previously described the meeting as routine, the choice of venue has raised questions. Netanyahu is also scheduled to meet with opposition leader Yair Lapid at 11:30 PM.
