Shin Bet Won't Provide Security for Gadi Eisenkot Ahead of Elections
The Shin Bet security agency has informed the "Yashar!" party that it will not provide security for party leader and prime ministerial candidate Gadi Eisenkot, a former IDF chief of staff. This decision comes just one month before elections and contradicts previous reports and the advisory committee's stance on protecting party leaders.
Despite this, Shin Bet chief David Zini has approved measures to ensure optimal security for all party leaders. These measures include intelligence units providing monitoring and threat assessment, and allowing private security firms hired by party leaders to obtain weapons permits, even without specific intelligence of a threat.
The Shin Bet stated that it will conduct ongoing assessments of threat levels for each party leader to determine the appropriate security arrangements. The agency will also coordinate closely with party leaders and their private security teams to enhance existing security.
