Democrats Party Petitions High Court for Security for Yair Golan Amid Threats

The "Democrats" party filed an urgent petition to Israel's High Court of Justice on Tuesday, demanding immediate security detail for party chairman Yair Golan. The petition was submitted after the party sent an urgent warning letter to Shin Bet head David Zini, requesting he order security for Golan.

The party alleges that the government and the Shin Bet are neglecting Golan's life, stating in the petition that "the writing is on the wall in blood, threatening to hang him in the city square." The petition highlights that Golan remains without security less than a month before elections, despite the police classifying the threat level against him as high.

According to the petition, Golan faces dozens of explicit and chilling assassination threats. It further notes that the police have raised his risk level to 4 out of 6, the same as Gadi Eisenkot, yet Golan has not been granted security. The petition includes documented threats such as calls for his execution, threats against his family, and wishes for his painful death, with one instance mentioning him as a target alongside others in a letter accompanying a brick thrown at Channel 12 studios.

The "Democrats" argue that a candidate unable to appear in public without risking their life is limited in conducting their election campaign, which constitutes an attack on the election process itself. The party stated, "We will not sit idly by while they plan the next political assassination. We demand the High Court intervene immediately, before it is too late."
