IDF Eliminates Hamas Northern Gaza Brigade Commander in Airstrike
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) eliminated Izz al-Din al-Bik, the commander of Hamas's northern Gaza Strip brigade, in an airstrike early Tuesday. The strike targeted a residential apartment in the al-Naser neighborhood, west of Gaza City. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stated in a joint release that al-Bik was involved in planning terrorist attacks against IDF forces and recruiting new members for Hamas.
Netanyahu and Katz praised the IDF and the Shin Bet security agency for their "decisive action against Hamas leaders and operatives." They affirmed Israel's commitment to pursuing Hamas members "wherever they are" until the organization ceases to exist in Gaza.
Al-Bik was considered a prominent figure in Hamas's military wing. He assumed command of the northern brigade following the elimination of his predecessor, Ahmed al-Ghandour, in November 2023. Al-Bik had previously survived an assassination attempt approximately four months prior when an airstrike hit an apartment in central Gaza City.
