IDF Eliminates Hamas Northern Gaza Brigade Commander Who Previously Survived Assassination Attempt
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the elimination of Azz ad-Din al-Bik, also known as Abu Hamza, the commander of Hamas's Northern Gaza Strip brigade. Al-Bik was killed in an airstrike on his home in the Nuseirat neighborhood of Gaza City early Tuesday morning. He was a senior Hamas official who had previously survived an assassination attempt.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the strike in a joint statement, noting that al-Bik was involved in planning terror attacks against Israeli forces and recruiting operatives for the organization. This marks the third Hamas brigade commander to be eliminated in recent weeks, following the deaths of the commanders of the Khan Yunis and Rafah brigades.
The assassination of al-Bik is part of a broader series of strikes targeting Hamas leadership. Netanyahu and Katz praised the efforts of the IDF and Shin Bet, vowing to continue pursuing all Hamas operatives. "We will continue to hunt down and pursue all the terrorists of the organization, from its commanders to its last operative, wherever they hide, until there is no Hamas in Gaza," they stated.
Al-Bik's elimination represents a significant blow to Hamas's command structure in the Gaza Strip.
