Montreal authorities in Canada said Monday evening that they were dealing with a suspected shooting incident involving hostages at a supermarket in a Jewish neighborhood. The shooting was reported near a Chabad House, and police were seen outside a kosher supermarket in the area.
ZAKA’s international division said, “A shooting incident is now taking place in a Jewish business center, local police forces are handling the incident and we are following with hope that it will end without casualties.”
Moishi Balch, a ZAKA volunteer who was near the scene, said the information available so far indicated a hostage situation inside the site. He said large police forces had sealed off the entire area, the incident was still ongoing, and there were reports of two suspects who had not yet been caught and were moving around the neighborhood.
Balch urged the public to follow security instructions and stay away from the scene. The report came as FIFA World Cup matches are being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with Canada hosting games in Toronto. The story was first published by N12.
