Hazardous Chemical Leak Contained at Haifa Port

A hazardous chemical leak occurred at the port of Haifa early Monday morning, September 28th, originating from a specialized container. Fire and rescue teams, along with specialized services, responded quickly to neutralize the threat. The Coastal District Fire and Rescue Service reported that the situation is under control and poses no danger to the public.

Emergency services received a report of a suspected leak shortly after 1:00 AM. Fire crews arrived promptly and, with an emergency brigade, began inspecting the port area. They identified a leak from an ISO tank container belonging to the company Haifa Chemicals.

Air quality measurements and environmental monitoring indicated that toxic substance levels were low and confined to the immediate vicinity of the damaged container. Firefighters and the emergency team isolated the object, securely sealing the tank and placing it within a protective containment unit to prevent further leakage.

Following initial containment, the tank container was moved to the Eastern Pier using a port crane. Conditions were established there for further inspection, treatment, and preparation for removal. A technical team from the Dshaninim chemical enterprise arrived Tuesday morning to conduct additional checks, complete the container's treatment, and arrange for its safe transport out of the port complex under the strict supervision and escort of the Haifa Port security service.
